Forest College and Research Institute, Hyderabad is established in 2016 with the objective of providing professional forestry education for the first time in the state of Telangana. In order to fulfil the Institute’s mandates of achieving higher standards in education, research and extension in Forestry, the Master's programme in Forestry is successfully introduced from the academic year 2020-21 onwards.
However, the course design and other academic procedures are as per ICAR guidelines. It offers 5 specializations in M.Sc (Forestry) programme with a total intake of seats.

This specialization offers a multidisciplinary approach, wherein students learn techniques that can be used to ensure the long-term sustainability of the forests and plantations.
The specialization equips the students with an array of resource management skills including Sustainable Forest Management, Forest health management, Urban green space management, Watershed management, Forest Soils and fertility management, Wasteland management, and Ecosystem management. The course is supported by the advance management tools such as remote sensing & GIS and Ecosystem services accounting.
